Dark-sky field trips …

Our weekend Dark Sky Field Trips are an excellent, enjoyable and sociable way to experience good dark sky conditions whether observing visually, with binoculars, telescopes or with photographic equipment.

Our main field trip venue is on the island of Anglesey. As well as providing rare dark-sky observing conditions, our field trips are an excellent, relaxing and social way of enjoying astronomy generally and good value at around £25 for the weekend.

Our additional activities include solar and atmospheric observing, astronomy discussions, mentoring, walking, visits to local attractions, lounging, reading, crosswords and socialising.

The dates for 2017 are as follows:

  • Thursday 10th to Monday 14th August (4 nights) (Perseids meteors)
(an extended weekend to give you the best chance of viewing these impressive showers)
  • Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th September (2 nights)

  • Friday 17th to Sunday 19th November (2 nights)

The pleasant hostel accommodation includes a range of communal or secluded activity rooms and spaces, bunk-beds in small rooms and dormitories and washrooms with showers.

Arriving from Friday afternoon onwards, we provide breakfasts, Saturday lunch and general snacks and refreshments. We all buy our own fish and chips on Friday evening and a pub meal on Saturday evening (all timed to enable observing thereafter when conditions are clear).

Those who come along are keen to come again…
